The best swinger cruises are full-ship charters run by three operators: Bliss Cruise, Desire Cruises, and Temptation Cruises. Each one rents an entire mainstream ship, fills it with couples, and sets its own rules for the week.

This guide explains how these sailings work, how the three brands differ, and how I would choose between them. Where a detail is something you should confirm with the operator before booking, I say so.

What a swinger cruise actually is

A swinger cruise (the operators prefer “lifestyle cruise” or “couples cruise”) is a charter, not a cruise line. The operator pays Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Oceania, or Norwegian for the whole ship for one sailing, then sells the cabins itself.

That distinction matters for two reasons. You book through the operator or one of its agents, not through the cruise line, and the operator’s rules (couples only, minimum age, dress policy in public areas) replace the line’s normal family rules for that one week.

How it differs from a nudist or adults-only cruise

A nudist charter is about body freedom, and most of its guests are not in the lifestyle. An adults-only line such as Virgin Voyages simply excludes children and runs a normal cruise for grown-ups.

A lifestyle charter sits in a third category. It is couples-only by rule, the entertainment is built around adult theme nights and workshops, and it includes a playroom that a regular ship does not have.

Full-ship charters versus group blocks

The three operators in this guide all run full-ship charters, which is why I focus on them. Travel agencies also sell smaller lifestyle group blocks on regular sailings, where events happen in reserved lounges and the rest of the ship is ordinary passengers.

A group block is cheaper and more discreet, but you are sharing the pool deck with families and the cruise line’s normal rules apply everywhere. If the onboard atmosphere is the whole point, a full charter is the only format that delivers it.

The best swinger cruises, operator by operator

These are the three operators currently selling full-ship lifestyle charters. I have listed what each one states on its own site, with the ships and dates as posted in August 2026.

Bliss Cruise

Bliss is the largest of the three and the one most North American couples start with. Per Bliss Cruise’s sailing list, it runs “couples-only, full-ship charters” on big Royal Caribbean and Celebrity ships, and every passenger must be at least 21.

The posted schedule puts Bliss on Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas from Fort Lauderdale in November 2026, calling at Falmouth, Jamaica and Costa Maya, Mexico. The spring 2027 sailing is on Celebrity Silhouette, and recent charters have used Celebrity Reflection and Explorer of the Seas.

Choose Bliss if you want the biggest guest count, the most venues, and a short flight to Florida. The scale is the draw and also the tradeoff: a Symphony-class ship carries thousands of guests, so it feels like a resort week rather than an intimate one.

Desire Cruises

Desire is the cruise arm of the Original Group, the Cancun company behind the Desire Riviera Maya resorts. Its site describes the sailings as designed for “open-minded couples,” with clothing-optional areas, theme nights, workshops, a playroom, and a Prestige Beverage Package included in the fare.

What sets Desire apart is the hardware and the map. Per Desire Cruises’ schedule, the posted sailings use Oceania’s Allura, Sirena, and Riviera, which are small upscale ships, on routes like Trieste to Valletta (August 2026), San Juan to Aruba and Curacao (February 2027), Lisbon to Morocco (September 2027), and Hong Kong to Singapore (January 2028).

Choose Desire if you would rather have a refined ship, better food, and a real itinerary than a floating party. Expect to pay more per night, to fly farther, and to book early, since several departures already show a waiting list.

Temptation Cruises

Temptation is the Original Group’s livelier sibling brand, built on the Temptation Cancun Resort formula. Its site pitches an “adults-only, couples-only escape at sea” where “clothing is optional,” with an unlimited open bar, pool parties, shows, and workshops included.

Per Temptation’s October 2026 sailing page, the cruise leaves Miami on October 20, 2026 and visits Great Stirrup Cay, Key West, and Nassau before returning on October 25. The ship page names Norwegian Jewel, and an October 2027 repeat is already listed.

Choose Temptation if you want the shortest commitment (five nights), fewer sea days, and a party atmosphere over a lifestyle one. It is the brand I would suggest to a couple who is curious but not sure they want a full week.

What to expect on board

Every operator publishes a similar menu: clothing-optional sun areas, a nightly theme party, daytime workshops, and a playroom. The ship itself is unchanged, so the dining rooms, theater, and cabins are exactly what the cruise line built.

Clothing-optional areas

Clothing-optional means specific outdoor zones, usually the main pool deck and hot tubs, not the whole ship. Indoor public spaces such as restaurants, bars, and corridors keep a dress requirement, and each operator posts its own dress guidance for its sailing.

Temptation describes its Great Stirrup Cay beach day as “tops optional,” which is a useful reminder that rules also change on land. Local law applies in every port, so cover up whenever you leave the ship.

Theme nights and workshops

Theme nights are the social engine of these cruises and most guests dress for every one. The operators publish the theme list before sailing, so check it before you pack rather than guessing.

The playroom

All three brands list a dedicated playroom, which Desire calls “a discreet, sensorial haven.” It is a staffed, adults-only venue with its own posted rules, and no guest is ever required to enter it.

The common rules across operators are the ones you would expect: explicit consent for any contact, no photography, and a towel between you and any surface. Read the specific code of conduct your operator sends before you sail, because violations can get you removed at the next port.

Etiquette and consent, in plain terms

The culture on these ships is more rule-bound than a typical nightclub, not less. The whole format depends on guests trusting that a no will be respected, so the operators enforce that hard.

• Ask first, every time: Touching, joining, or even photographing someone requires a clear yes. A “maybe later” is a no unless that person seeks you out.
• Agree your limits before boarding: Decide as a couple what you are open to, and pick a discreet code word that means “let’s leave.” Have that conversation at home, not at the bar.
• No cameras in sensitive areas: Phones stay away from pool decks and playrooms. Assume staff will enforce this.

Treat any symbol as a conversation starter and nothing more. A pineapple on a door is not consent to knock at midnight, and the only signal that matters is a verbal yes.

How I’d choose

The right sailing depends on how much time, money, and nerve you are bringing. Here is how I would sort it.

• First-timers on a budget: Temptation’s five-night October Caribbean sailing from Miami. Short, open bar included, and party-first rather than lifestyle-first.
• Couples who want the full experience: Bliss in November or April. The largest guest count means the most workshops, meetups, and venues, and Fort Lauderdale or Miami are easy to reach.
• Couples who care about the ship and the ports: Desire on an Oceania ship. The Mediterranean and Asia itineraries are real destination cruises with the lifestyle programming layered on top.

Cabins and cost

Cabins are the cruise line’s normal inventory, from inside rooms to suites, priced per couple by the operator. Charter fares run well above the same ship’s regular rates because the programming, entertainment, and (on Desire and Temptation) the drinks are bundled in.

I do not quote prices here because they change by sailing and sell through in stages. Check the current fare on the operator’s page, and read the deposit and cancellation terms closely, since charter fares are often far less refundable than a standard cruise.

Booking and preparation

Documents

Bring a passport book for both of you. Desire’s sailings start in Europe, Asia, or Puerto Rico, and even the Florida charters call at foreign ports where a passport is the document I would never sail without.

Charter fares, flights, and pre-cruise hotel nights add up to a large nonrefundable number. A policy with cancellation coverage is worth more here than on a regular cruise, so buy it when you pay the deposit.

What to pack

Pack one outfit per theme night, normal resort daywear, and a cover-up for port days. First-timers almost always underpack for theme nights, so check the posted list and commit to it.
